I planted two Andromeda bushes about 10 years ago. Obviously, something serious went wrong with one of them. Can you tell me what happened and if it can be saved? Thank you so much. Marsha
Answer
Hi Marsha,
Your Andromeda cannot be saved. I would need more information to be able to answer your question for certain, but here are some possibilities. It certainly looks like severe winter damage. Did the winter winds directly hit this shrub? It also could be chemicals that killed it. Was there anything spilled near this shrub? Perhaps, winter de-icing salt from sidewalk or driveway, or car washing detergent? The other possibility is the environment. Andromeda prefer part to full shade to thrive. If it's in too much sun, the plant will get stressed and lace bugs will show up, pierce the leaves and suck the juices, eventually killing the shrub.
Thank you for your question.
