Hello Linda, I noticed some weeds that look like little pines (see attached picture) on my lawn. How can I prevent them from invading the grass? Thanks Jane

Hi Jane,
Actually what you see in your lawn is not weeds, but baby moss plants. Moss is a good plant that grows in shady, moist, low pH areas. It stays green and you don't have to mow it. It is perfectly suited for that environment.
Looking closely at your photo, I see several other varieties of moss growing in this area. It's actually a blessing you have the moss because grass will never grow in shady, moist areas. Don't pull up the moss. Allow it to grow and spread. Eventually you will have a carpet of moss composed of different colors, textures and heights that requires no maintenance. The only thing you will have to do is to pull out any stray weeds which will encourage the growth of the moss. I learned a long time ago to work with Mother Nature and not against her because she always wins.
